Artist Statement Born in San Miguel de Allende in 1968, Cehlia was introduced to the art world at a very early age. She began painting at the age of 3 in her mother's studio, learning such techniques as Bas relief, printmaking, charcoal, pastels, oils, acrylics, embossing, and many more.

As she entered her teen years she was distracted from the art world by a long term foray into modeling and acting. Feature films, television, and theater took presidence over being an artist and following in her parent's footsteps. After all her sister had become an architect and someone needed to rebel.

Newman-Menendez finally made the decision to allow her inner artist to satiate her needs and began painting and sketching(again) in her early twenties. She soon sold several pieces in private shows and found favorable response to her style and creations.

Her most recent colorful period has been an inspired foray into Abstract and Expressionist pieces. She truly feels she has achieved another level in her artwork and welcomes comment and critique from all.
